Frequently Asked Questions

Wound care involves the management and treatment of injuries or wounds to promote healing and prevent complications. This includes cleaning the wound to remove debris and bacteria, applying appropriate dressings to protect and absorb exudate, and using medications or ointments to aid in healing and reduce infection risk. Proper wound care also involves monitoring the wound for signs of infection or poor healing, and adjusting treatment as needed. Effective wound care is essential for optimal recovery, reducing the risk of complications, and improving overall patient outcomes.

Do I have to have a wound to be treated at the wound clinic

No. Many of out patients come to us with conditions such as chronic swelling in the legs and/or feet, skin rashes, cellulitis, cysts/ abscesses and other conditions.

What if I have home health care nurses taking care of me at home?

Seha Wound Care works closely with all home health care agencies and nurses in the community to establish individualized care plans and ensure continuity of quality care. After assessment at the Advanced Wound Recovery clinic, a detailed set of care instructions, tailored individually for each patient, are printed out and sent with the patient or faxed directly to the home care agency to follow up on at home. We are available by telephone 24/7 to answer nurses’ questions and attend to questions and/or concerns pertaining to care.

What should I bring with me to my first appointment?

Please bring a list of your current medications, your insurance card, a photo ID, and any information that will help us better understand your condition, such as information about what dressings or therapies you have previously used. Also, please be prepared to make any co-payments for the office visit, as required by your insurance.

Do I need a referral to visit the wound clinic?

Whether or not you need a referral from your primary care physician depends on what type of health insurance you have. If Medicare is your primary insurance, you do NOT need a referral. PPO and Indemnity health insurance plans generally do not require a referral, nor does the new Harvard Pilgrim Freedom Plus Plan. Most HMOs, such as Tufts Medicare Preferred and BCBS HMO Blue or Blue Choice plans DO require a referral. If your insurance requires a referral, please contact Advanced Wound Recovery for the wound care physician’s name and provider # for your insurance. You can request a referral directly from your Primary Care Physician.

Visits to the wound clinic are considered by your insurance as “medical office visits”. Your visit to the clinic may be considered a “specialist office visit” if your insurance differentiates between PCP and specialist office visits.
